Work in Progress II: Armature 「作品制作中パート2:辛抱作り

Fig. 1

Fig.2

Fig. 3

This is second in the "Work in Progress" posts where I am showing works in progress of pieces for the coming exhibit in January at Blackfish. After forming the 'leaves' and branches of the Tree of Life, I have decided to put human figures and creatures on them. Here I am using wire to form armature for the figures. How these figures and creatures relate to each other, we'll see later, as I have not fully decided this yet (laugh). Usually, I have some basic conception of set of works that I would like to make, but details are left blank. Each step leads to next.

Fig. 1 on the top shows me getting basic proportion and posture of the figure using wire gage #16 and #18. Fig 2 shows different piece but with wire armature of figures just about completed and ready to move onto the next stage. Last photo, Fig.3 shows a different type of piece, a wall piece. 'Leaf' and branches of the tree are set in such a way to be hung on the wall. One wire armature of a small figure was set on the wall piece, but I am thinking of adding other figures on this piece.

  1. figure one looks like a pancake (just kidding!) I like figure three a lot, maybe because it's a wall piece.

  2. No Helen, more like naan, the Indian flatcake then pancake (seriously).

Actually the first two pieces are more unique because the rest of the others that I am planning to complete and exhibit for this coming exhibit probably will be wall pieces. Also you may have to wait for judging these works as I might add bugs, lizards and that sort of lovable creatures on these pancakes and bread sticks parts(just kidding).

  3. Also Helen, I had ridiculously 'out of limit' experience yesterday and this morning which I might share in Facebook later if I'm still in mood.

  4. we are looking forward to hearing from you on face book...plus you must have friends and ex students in Japan who are on FB...you can do a 'search' for them by name and add to your friend list. Did you check my albums? There is a photo of you I was tempted to 'tag' - that means it would show up on your fb wall...but Mario beat me to it with the Blackfish photo!

  5. Sorry for not replying sooner. I've been avoiding computer as I am trying to recover from having only couple hours of sleep two days ago after drinking strong espresso coffee. The whole experience which was weird was what my 'out of limit' comment above was all about, but my eyes are fatigued and head been spinning so I don't want to comment any further on this- at least not now.

As for FB thing, I took a cursory look at my FB page moments ago, and wow things looked so different I thought I was in yours or Mario's FB page. I still feel uncomfortable about FB, especially on privacy, and my attention right now is in my artwork for coming show so I will let this FB thing slowly develop... thanks for suggestions though.
