Yuki's Wedding Book Cover Design 「ユキのウェディングボックの表紙デザイン」

I am very happy to say one of my former seminar student, Yuki Sakou (class of 04) got married recently. She designed the cover for her wedding book, and in it she used a photo of my sculpture piece which I have shown in January exhibition at Blackfish gallery. I am pleased to say an angel image of my work appears to be very appropriate with the subject of wedding and works well in her cover design. The cover reminds me of poster Yuki (yuki is snow in Japanese) designed for 2004 Ikeda sculpture seminar exhibition. 2004 group including junior seminar students was an exceptionally talented and energetic group, and many of them appear to take interesting directions after graduation. I hope them further success. And I hope Yuki and her husband a continual happiness.

元道都大学で私の彫刻ゼミのゼミ長だった、酒向ユキさんが今年の一月に結婚した。彼女の教師だった私にとっては大変嬉しい出来事だ。彼女はウェディングボックのカバーを自分でデザインし、そのデザインの中に最近制作した私の作品のイメージも入れた。エンゼルのイメージで結婚の内容に合うし、又、デザインの雪（ユキ）のモヨウとも合うようでけっこう私好きで気にいっている。この表紙のデザインを見ていると彼女が２００４年のイケダゼミ展のポスターをデザインした時を思い出す。あれからもう６年たつのかと思ってしまう。三年生もふくめて２００４年の時のゼミ生たちは大変優れたグループでそれぞれ面白い道をしっかりと進んでいるようだ。ユキもだんなさんと幸せな家庭をこれから築いていくんだろうなと思いながらこのポストを書いた。

Teaching at Dohto University　「道都大学での教え」

For the last 15 years, I have taught at Dohto University in Kitahiroshima, a suburb of Sapporo in northern Japan. Classes I taught include fundamental art classes open to art and design students and Seminar classes open to sculpture majors only.

「私は１９９３年から２００８年帰国するまで札幌市の郊外、北広島市に位置している私立、道都大学で英語、美術を教えていました。とくに１９９７年、美術部が札幌のキャンパスに紋別市から移住してからは主に彫刻を美術部の学生たちに教えていました。」

Ikeda Sculpture Seminar　「道都大学イケダ彫刻ゼミについて」

Following works and exhibitions are of sculpture majors who were my students between 2001 to 2008 at Dohto University.
They and their works are introduce here because I like them, I
'm proud of them and hope you like them too. I also presented so my former students can use my blog for reference. My only regret is that I did not recorded works of earlier students.

Seminar Exhibitions 「ゼミ展｝

Seminar exhibitions are exhibitions of works held by sculpture majors that also include drawings, paintings and other works by them. Above Seminar Exhbition 2005　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　「ゼミ展は道都大学の彫刻・立体造形専門の学生たちの展覧会で彫刻のほかゼミ生のドローイング、プリントや絵なども展示しました。下の写真アルバム集は札幌市の郊外にある北広島市文化ホールのギャラリーで２００１年－から２００６年の間展示したものです。私の彫刻ゼミ生のほか時々ほかのゼミの学生たちも参加しました。上は２００５年のゼミ展の様子です。　

A retrospective exhibition of works done in Japan by Kanetaka (ken) Ikeda and students (mostly underclassmen) of Dohto University. Also participating in this exhibition is Shingo Yonzawa, a friend who I met when I was giving a public workshop.

上の二つのアルバム集は私、ケン・池田の個展と道都大学デザイン学生〈主に下級生）と公開講座で会った友人の米澤慎吾氏との共同展覧会のもの。札幌の郊外にある北広島市の文化ホールのギャラリーで２００８年の二月アメリカへ私が帰国する前に行った。

「ガンダラのイメージ」　私がアメリカへ帰国する前によくゼミ室で制作していた明るく、エネルギいっぱいの当時２年生で現在４年のモリノリコの作品。このろから彼女が想像し、制作しだした世界が「ガンダラ」で古代インド文明の名を使っているが、モリノリの「ガンダラ」は彼女のどくとくな想像の世界。彫刻のゼミに入っているようで、彫刻のほか、銅版や絵などでこの世界を造りあげている。モリノリと彼女の世界がどのように発展するかは私の道都での残っている一つの思い。
