"Third Exhibition at Blackfish- The Walls" 「

I will end posts on my early Blackfish exhibition with this one. The third one was on my second groups of "Wall Series" whose photos I have shown in earlier post that discussed my early shows at Blackfish. I will just leave a small photo image here as this is repeat. It was held at the early part of 1983 just before I left Blackfish as I was planning to move onto other things. These were shown on a new space that Blackfish lately bought. A narrow space next to Blackfish was opened for rent so members took over and refinished it. This extended the space to the point that space wise, Blackfish possessed one of the the three largest commercial gallery space in the Northwest. So Irene Senners, a superb artist, took over the main gallery, and I the side gallery, and we both I believe were well received by artists and critical viewers.

Unlike earlier pieces, these Wall pieces were fairly uniform in terms of size, shape, and materials used. And also different from earlier pieces, there was definite difference between front and back side of walls. The front area was much more paintly while the back was more uniform with near single tone coloring. Unlike earlier works also was that instead of reflecting the human presence through weathered walls of surrounding walls of old buildings, these I felt were more like painted monoliths with more of stonehenge like presence as though they abstractedly recorded the passing of eons of time or like something to the effect of monoliths that appeared on that great movie, 2001 Space Odyssey. Come to think of it, the author Arthur C. Clarke was one of my favorite SF author. In fact I have listened to his lecture at Gill Coliseum in Oregon State University back in 1970.
